In July, the Rosenbaum Family House (RFH) will celebrate 25 years of operation and 10 years at its current location on the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital campus. During this time, more than 22,000 families have found respite within its walls while loved ones received medical care at WVU Medicine. Rosenbaum Family House
In addition to lodging at rates lower than a hotel, RFH offers guests amenities such as laundry facilities, fully equipped kitchen, pantry items, dining spaces and more.
“It is about more than just lodging,” Elizabeth Kanosky, Rosenbaum Family House coordinator said. “The support that staff and other guests offer helps with the overall well-being of everyone here.”
Jerrilyn Cuppett, patient family liaison, has worked at RFH since it opened. The position gave her an opportunity to help others and make an impact, something she is happy remains a part of her role.
“Things have changed a lot. We now handle and do more for our guests, especially interacting with families on a more personal level,” she said. “The biggest blessing is when one of our patients comes back and they are well. Some have been true miracles.”
The RFH team will celebrate the silver anniversary with a music infused fundraising event from 5-9 p.m. June 27 at Forks of Cheat Winery.
“Bluegrass music is deeply rooted in Appalachian and West Virginian culture the way we are rooted in WVU Medicine,” Kanosky said. “We want everyone at the event to help us celebrate our home away from home with good food and music in a relaxed, inviting atmosphere.”
Proceeds from the event will help support a variety of RFH programs, including the Care and Comfort Fund, which pays the room balance for families in need, and the Meal Program.
