Nexus to perform Saturday at The Encore  

Nexus, a Grateful Dead tribute band, has been around north-central West Virginia for a while. Bruce Kimmel, a Lewis County resident born and raised in Brooklyn, remembers being asked to join in the mid-1980s, and Craig Seth, of Ritchie County, signed on soon after. 

 The group, which now includes Erik Yoder on guitar and vocals and Jeff Fedan on drums, both of Morgantown, comes for another show at The Encore at 8 p.m. Saturday. Kimmel will be on bass; Seth on guitar and vocals. 

Community Baby Shower set for Saturday  

Partners in Prevention — the United Way Family Resource Network will host a Monongalia County Community Baby Shower from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday in the Mon Health Medical Center Conference Room, 1200 JD Anderson Drive, Morgantown. 

 The shower is for expectant and new parents with infants up to 1-year-old. Attendees will receive free items, enjoy light refreshments, browse resource tables and engage with presentations from three guest speakers. Mon Health’s Progressing Through Postpartum (P3) Program’s perinatal nurse navigator, Jennifer Bender, will talk about perinatal mental health and support for all moms. Chief medical officer and senior clinical solutions of Aetna Better Health of West Virginia, Dr. Wanda Hembree, will speak about breastfeeding. Eric Murphy, mental health specialist with WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities, will discuss the importance of fathers and role models. 

This event is made possible as part of the Partners in Prevention Grant from TEAM for West Virginia Children and sponsorships from UniCare and The Health Plan. 

Cemetery decoration planned for Sunday  

The Mount Pleasant Cemetery Decoration is set for 2 p.m. Sunday. 

 Arts association hosts watercolor workshops  

Morgantown Art Association will host watercolor workshops in the MAA Gallery in Mountaineer Mall, next to Animal Friends Thrift Shop. Seating for these opportunities is limited and a $100 deposit holds a spot. The instructors are nationally known watercolorists. Instructing will be: 

JJ Jiang, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 16-18. The fee for non-members is $325. 

Mick McAndrews, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 3-6. The fee for non-members is $275. 

Miniatures is the theme for the MAA June exhibit. It will be on display in The Gallery from Thursday through July 11.
