Richard Thomas “Ricky” John, 46, of Morgantown, passed away at WVU Medicine — J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, Friday evening, May 31, 2024.
Ricky was born Dec. 30, 1977, in Morgantown, a son of Robert “Bob” John, of Morgantown, and the late Nettie Saltzer John, who preceded him in death in 2012.
In addition to his father, Ricky is survived by two sons whom he shared a very close relationship with: Izaiha Thomas John and his fiancée, Carrie Bragg and Dominick Joshua John, all of Fairmont; a granddaughter, Aria Quinn John; two brothers, Scott and his wife, Heather, of Midlothian, Va., and Mark and his wife, Kate, of Hagerstown, Md.; his fiancée, Heather Stone and her son, Will Johnson; and his nieces, Alexandra Stevenson, Paige Weimer and Kelsey Weimer. Ricky also leaves behind a host of cherished extended family members and close friends.
In addition to his mother, Ricky was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Karl John and June John and his maternal grandparents, James P. Saltzer and Ruth McVicker Saltzer.
Ricky was a graduate of Morgantown High School, class of 1996. He was an avid sneaker, shoe, hat and shot glass collector. He was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a very talented chef. He loved and adored his granddaughter who affectionately referred to him as “Pop Pop” and always enjoyed his time hanging out with his friends.
Ricky is resting peacefully in the arms of his mother in Heaven.
Friends may join the family to honor Ricky’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown from 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 8 until the time of the memorial service at 3 p.m., officiated by Chaplain Tyler Erickson. Following the service and at a later date, Ricky will be inurned with his mother at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
