George Woodford

George Jeffrey Woodford, beloved father, husband, brother and son, passed away at his home in Baltimore on May 3, 2024.

George leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, generosity and an impeccable taste in music. Our Spotify playlists are all the richer because of his guidance.

Born in Morgantown on Jan. 2, 1970, George surprised everyone by coming into the world with his two sisters, Sara and Sandra. The ‘Woodford Triplets’ captured the city’s attention and upended daily life on Grandview Avenue.

Following his graduation from Morgantown High School in 1988, George spent two years attending and playing basketball for Potomac State before returning to WVU to finish his business degree. Post graduation, George moved to Washington D.C. to start a long and productive career in broadcast technology sales.

George’s generosity and concern for others helped many family members and friends during hard times. He had a powerful love and compassion for those around him and he showed it every chance he had.

His generosity came second only to his love for his family. George met his wife, Julie, when they became friends in 1994. The friendship was second to none and became the foundation of their continued relationship. They married in Arlington, Va. on Sept. 27, 2003, in a park facing a view of the Washington D.C. skyline. The family became complete with the birth of their amazing son, the joy of their lives, Julian.

George is preceded in death by his father, James Woodford; his sister, Rebecca Rogers; and his brothers-in-law, Freddie Piraino, George McMillen and Gary Rogers.

George will forever be in the hearts of his son, Julian; his wife, Julie; his mother, Barbara Woodford; his mother-in-law, Julie Piraino; his sisters, Sandra Falloon and Sara McMillen; and his brothers, Jimmy, David and Chuck Woodford; along with countless nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law and others whose lives he touched in his short, brilliant time with us.

A remembrance service will be held at Nate Smith Basketball School, 819 Greenbag Road in Morgantown at 3 p.m. on June 8.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider a donation to World Central Kitchen, the Nate Smith Basketball School or Vieques Humane Society and Animal Rescue.
