Richard “Rick” L. Ireland, 78, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
He was born Jan. 19, 1946, in Morgantown, a son of the late A. Louis and Beulah A. “Boots” (Casteel) Ireland.
Rick was a United States Veteran during the Vietnam War. He worked for Mon Power’s Fort Martin Power Plant for 36 years, retiring at age 56.
Rick was an active member of the Izaak Walton League of America for 53 years.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Ireland; son, Paul A. “Chip” Ireland (Barbara); daughters, Diedre Law (Brandon) and Hilaria E. Swisher (Rodney); four grandchildren, Emma Law, Ian Law, Courtney Swisher and Caleb Law; two brothers, Randall Ireland (Patti) and Russell Ireland (Patricia); numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by both sets of his grandparents and his first wife, Gladys (McGregor) Ireland.
The family would like to thank WV Caring Hospice for taking care of Rick, especially Erin, Bunny, April, Sarah, Courtney and Lynn. Special thanks to longtime family friend, Rebecca “Becki” Deem and eldest granddaughter, Emma Law, for their help caring for Rick in the evenings.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV from 2-6 p.m. on Monday, May 27. Visitation will continue in the funeral home from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28 until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Lynn Keener, Chaplain with WV Caring Hospice, officiating. Following the service, cremation services will be provided.
