Ernest “Clyde” Friend, 87, of Morgantown, went home on May 25, 2024, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was the son of the late Clarence F. and Thelma Cline Friend. He was born in Tunnelton on Jan. 6, 1937.
Clyde graduated from Tunnelton High School. He retired from working in the coal mines. He was a member of the Covenant Church in Fairmont.
He is survived by four children, Ray (Kim) Friend, Deanna (Dean) Lowdermilk, Cindy (Ray) Hall, Renee (Pete) Birurakis; six grandchildren, Robert (Michelle) Lowdermilk, Stephanie Lowdermilk, Sarah (Micah) Friend, Josh Birurakis, Nicole (Nick) Richards, Devin Hall; great-grandchildren, lssac (Rebeka) Blanchard, Levi Lowdermilk, Gavin Messer, Olivia, Magnolia, Canaan and Camilla Friend; one great-great-grandson, Lucus Blanchard; and one brother, Charles “Bob” Friend.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence J. Friend and Larry A. Friend; and a grandson, Travis Hall.
Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown St., Newburg, from 3-7 p.m. Monday, May 27, and from 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, until time of service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Sheldon Nickerson officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Israel Cemetery.
