The average price for gasoline across northern West Virginia is 2 cents higher this week at $3.513 per gallon, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.
The average price in northern West Virginia is $3.513.
In Morgantown, the average is $3.568.
Nearby, in Bridgeport, it’s $3.497 and $3.50 in Clarksburg.
The national average for a gallon of gasoline continues to trend downward, also falling 2 cents over the past week to $3.59. The primary reasons are weak domestic demand and oil costs below $80 a barrel. Today’s national average is eight cents less than a month ago but five cents more than a year ago.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand rose modestly from 8.79 million barrels per day to 8.87 last week. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks decreased slightly from 228 to 227.8 million barrels. Lackluster pre-Memorial Day demand and steady or falling oil prices are contributing to lower pump prices.
At 457.0 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 4% below the five-year average for this time of year.
