Genevieve Calvert

Genevieve “Genny” Miranov Calvert, an angel who went back to heaven to be with Jesus on May 19, 2024, in Granville.

Born on Jan. 12, 1947, to the late John George Miranov and Mary Louise Kovatch Miranov in Morgantown, Genny’s journey through life was marked by unwavering kindness, love and thoughtfulness toward all who had the good fortune to cross her path.

She is survived by a sister, Patty Matthews (Tommy); brothers, Steve Miranov (Cindy) and George Miranov (Patricia); and a cherished constellation of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was a second mother and grandmother, imparting wisdom, love and joy to Herman DeProspero (Nicole), Jeremy DeProspero, Lucas Darnell (Kim), Matt Darnell (Jill), Aaron Miranov (Angela), Rob Miranov (Ashley), Cassi Hunt, Johnathan Miranov (Kaley), Lauren Lint (Matt) and the 14 great-nieces and nephews who adored her. Her great-niece, Makayla Miranov, held a particularly special place in her heart.

Genny was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don Calvert; her parents, John and Mary Miranov; and her sisters, Barbara Darnell and Elizabeth Miranov.

Genny’s spirit of service was cultivated through her education at St. Francis High School and further expressed through her lifelong membership at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She devoted 35 years of her career to Mon General Hospital in the sterilization department, a testament to her commitment to care and her community.

An avid mountaineer fan, Genny enveloped herself in the shared excitement of sports. Beyond the thrill of the game, she found joy in cooking and baking for family and neighbors, delighting them with her culinary creations. Her talents extended to the delicate art of embroidery and quilting, generously sharing her beautiful treasures with her family.

Genny’s dedication to community service shone brightly during her tenure on the Granville City Council from 2013-21. Her insights and initiatives fundamentally shaped the town she so adored.

A visitation will be held at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Rd, Westover, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22.
