Roland John Berry Ann Jr., 75, of Morgantown, passed away on May 15, 2024, following a long illness.
A devoted husband, cherished father and proud Mountaineer fan, Roland’s legacy is one of dedication, love and service.
Roland was a proud civil servant, devoting 38 years as a federal employee and having a distinguished career with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). His contributions were many, but he became a hero to more than just his children when he was part of NIOSH’s response team at Ground Zero following the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. His efforts during this critical time exemplified his courage and deep sense of duty.
Beyond his professional achievements, Roland was a hero at home. His guidance and support shaped the lives of his four children, and his constant wit taught them to see the humor and joy in everyday occurrences.
Roland is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda Arlene Berry Ann; his children, Nathan John Berry Ann, Todd Michael Berry Ann, Kristi Leigh Berry Ann and Melinda Kaye Coen; and his adored grandchildren, Ava and Hannah Berry Ann (Nathan), Grant and Clara Berry Ann (Todd) and Arthur and Thomas Coen (Melinda).
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, Roland John Berry Ann Sr. and Elsie Mildred Berry Ann; and his brother, Charles “Butch” George Berry Ann.
Roland’s memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared by friends and family and the countless lives he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience and an enduring spirit that will continue to inspire.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 19, from 2-5 p.m. at McCulla Funeral Home in Westover and again from 10 a.m. on Monday until the 11 a.m. service time, with Chaplain Cass Kile officiating. Burial will follow in Beverly Hills Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Roland’s remarkable life.
