Shirley B. Evans, 91, of Point Marion, Pa., passed away in the Uniontown Hospital on Thursday, May 9, 2024, following a brief illness.
Born in Gastonville, Pa. on June 17, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Edith (Derryberry) Bowers Moser.
A 1950 graduate of Morgantown High School, Shirley worked as a teacher’s aide at Friendship Hill Elementary School, and later was the gift shop manager at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. For many years she was a faithful member and former treasurer of the New Geneva Baptist Church. A member of the Uniontown Flower Club, she enjoyed working in her gardening beds at home and was quite skilled in growing and arranging beautiful flowers.
Surviving are four nieces, AnneMarie Bowers, Stephanie Renner, Patty Evans and Sherry Bryson; five nephews, Mark, Dennis, Philip L. Jr. and Danny Bowers and John Dorobish; her stepsister, Alice Dorobish, of Shoaf, Pa.; step-granddaughter, Andrea Gregor and her daughters, Abigail and Luella, of Dilliner, Pa.; her faithful canine companion, Buddy and many friends.
Preceding her in death was her loving husband of 68 years, Donald Marcellus Evans; two sons, Deon M. Evans and Brian D. Evans; and a brother, Philip L. Bowers Sr.
Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, Pa., from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, and from 10 a.m. on Wednesday in the New Geneva Baptist Church until the 11 a.m. service, with the Rev. Charles Bowser officiating. Interment follows in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New Geneva, Pa.
