James Sickles

James Michael “Mike” Sickles, 73, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 5, 2024.  

He was born Aug. 24, 1950, in Morgantown, the son of the late James C. Sickles and Edith (Pysell) Sickles.  

He was a 1968 graduate of Morgantown High School and worked for many years at CONSOL Energy’s Pursglove No. 15 Mine as a shift foreman. Mike was an avid collector of many things including guns, coins and old clocks. He enjoyed old cars, shooting skeet and was a HAM Radio enthusiast who liked talking to people all over the world.  

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, John Sickles, of Morgantown; son, Chad M. Sickles, of Morgantown; as well as several aunts and uncles.  

Mike is survived by his wife, Gloria (Rife) Sickles; son, Bryan Sickles and wife, Bobbi, of Morgantown; granddaughters, Hannah (Sickles) Donaldson and her husband, Brady, of Oakland, Md., and Avery Sickles, of Morgantown; as well as his special baby dog, Cassie.  

A memorial service will be held at Covenant Global Methodist Church, 802 Greenbag Road, Morgantown, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, with Pastor Nate Williamson officiating.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the food pantry at Covenant Global Methodist Church.  

Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with cremation arrangements.
