Prep Roundup: UHS lacrosse wins playoff opener

MORGANTOWN — The University boys Lacrosse team defeated Martinsburg, 15-6, in the WVSLA D1 quarterfinal game of the playoffs on Tuesday.

The Hawks scored early in the first quarter and never looked back. The offense, led by Connor Montgomery (six goals), was otherwise a balanced attack. Aidan Murray (two goals) and seven other players added to the scoreboard.

Goalie James Robbins had 12 saves in the game.

The Hawks take the field again Friday at 6 pm at Mylan Pharmaceutical Field in the semifinals of the playoffs.

Buckhannon-Upshur 6, Preston 1

BUCKHANNON — Buckhannon-Upshur scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to eliminate Preston, 6-1, in the second round of the Class AAA Region I, Section 2 tournament on Tuesday.

All six runs were unearned as the Knights (11-10) committed five errors in the contest. Brady McNew pitched all six innings, allowing six hits while striking out six.

Tanner Thomas drove in Preston’s lone run.
