Gary Casteel

Gary “Cobra” Ray Casteel Sr., 76, of Morgantown, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 28, 2024.  

Cobra was born on July 8, 1947, the son of the late Ray and Rose Casteel.  

Cobra was a Morgantown native and was most known for running Cobra CB Shop. In his younger years, Cobra enjoyed hunting and fishing. During his life he also worked at the Glass Factory and Mylan where he met his loving wife, Nancy.  

When he wasn’t working, he was an avid Big Bear, Alaskan Village camper. He liked to take trips on his golf cart and loved to spend time with his friends and family. In his family, Cobra was known for giving all of his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren their first tractor rides. Cobra was a hard-working man who will be missed by many.  

Cobra is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy Casteel; son, Gary Ray Casteel, Jr. (Taressa); daughters, Renee Carol Casteel Dodson (Greg) and Virginia Rose Casteel Young (Skip); grandchildren, Ryan Casteel, Alesha Johnson, Kira Painter (Justin), Jacob Dodson, Amber Young, Dylan Young and Angela Young. Cobra is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Paige Paugh, Whitney Saltsman, Chelsie Johnson and Rayden Painter; and is expecting another great-grandson in September; special niece, Rose Ann Wolfe; many other nieces and nephews; and his devoted dog, Coco.  

In addition to his parents, Cobra is preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Ray Casteel and Harold Gene Casteel, and his sister, Loretta Casteel Eminger.  

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ron “Red” Taylor and Pastor Debbie Tripplett officiating.  

Interment will follow at Mt. Union Cemetery.
