Audrey Estelle Ryan, 98, of Hedgesville, formerly of Westover, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2024.
She was born on Oct. 19, 1925, in Marlington, W.Va., to the late Leo and Jesse Carpenter Shinaberry.
A cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Audrey lived a full and vibrant life.
Audrey’s unwavering warmth resonated with everyone she encountered.
Her journey through life was shared with her beloved children, Lisa Wiles, of Hedgesville, and Roger Johnson, of Grafton. She was a proud grandmother to William, Robbie, Evan, Heather, Richard and Johnny; and a joyful great-grandmother to 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her sons, William Butch Johnson and Warren Ryan; granddaughter, Corina K. Johnson; great-grandson, Colton Johnson; her sisters, Mattie Griffin and Thelma Demasi; and her brother, Charles Shinaberry.
Audrey, when able, attended the Granville United Methodist Church. She was a lifelong member of the VFW Auxiliary, a testament to her service-minded spirit since 1950.
Described by those who knew her as friendly and faith-filled, Audrey’s memory will be forever cherished as a guiding light of compassion and strength. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all those fortunate enough to have known her.

Friends may gather at McCulla Funeral Home in Westover from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 29, and again from 10 a.m. on Tuesday until the 11 a.m. service time, with Pastor Jim Weber officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Pisgah.
