William Howard Raley Sr., “Bill,” departed this life on April 20, 2024, at the age of 86, a day before his 68th wedding anniversary to spend it with his departed wife, Donna. His journey came to a peaceful end in Morgantown, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on Dec. 27, 1937, in Cassville, Bill was the eldest son of the late Howard William “Buck” Raley and Lulu Mae Core Raley.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Shirline Radcliff Raley, who passed away on July 5, 2022; and several siblings including, Dottie Wilson, Virginia Stansberry, Joyce Raley and his twin, Bob Raley and Larry Raley.
Bill’s legacy continues through his devoted children, Patricia (Guy) Shelledy, of Morgantown, whom he happily lived with for the last couple years; William “Bill” (Mary) Raley of Berlin, Md., Randy (Joni) Raley of Duncansville, Pa., and Tim (Christine) Raley, of Morgantown. His brother, John (Nancy) Raley, of Morgantown, also survives him.
Passionate about his career, Bill was revered in his role as chief cardiovascular perfusionist at WVU Hospital and Mon General Hospital, where he contributed to the health and well-being of countless patients. His mastery and innovation in the field have left an enduring imprint on the medical community.
Bill enjoyed golfing and hunting with his brothers, gardening and canning with family. He was an avid WVU sports fan. He attended Chestnut Ridge Church.
Bill’s grandchildren, Ashley (Johnny) Harrison, Devon Raley, Starla Beck, Jay (Leslie) Shelledy, Alex Shelledy, Kayla Raley, Kacie Raley, Emma Tyler and Ethan Tyler, together with his great-grandchildren, Jada, Amelia, Cassidy and Henry will forever treasure his memory.
Bill’s lasting impact on those fortunate enough to have shared in his journey is immeasurable. Bill will be dearly missed and in the hearts of those he touched. Bill’s story is a testament to a life well-lived.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Amedisys Hospice, including Melissa, Misty, Rayna, Jessica, Sara, Robin and all of those who helped behind the scenes with the care of Bill. The care and compassion shown to Bill and his family in their time of need was wonderful.
Friends will be received at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Morgantown, from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, April 26. A private service will be held later with burial to follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Garden.
