James Michael Friend passed away at home in Morgantown on April 23, 2024.
James was born Aug. 21, 1960, the son of Jessie M. and the late John T. Friend Sr.
James graduated from Morgantown High. He worked in the family business until he became disabled from a chronic illness. He liked fishing and WVU sports. Jim attended Westover United Methodist Church. He spent the last years living with his mother while taking turns taking care of each other. He was a past member of the Westover Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Beth (Bob) Thewlis and brother, Fred (Sherry) Friend; stepchildren, Beverly and Michael Tennant; nephews, Eric (Tracy) Thewlis, Scot (Kacey) Friend, Charlie (Emily) Thewlis and Jon Friend; nieces, Melissa McKinley, Ashley (Sean) Wheeler and Samantha (Ryan) Taylor; several great-nephews and great-nieces; and his good friends, Mike, Becky and Jenny.
In addition to his father, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, John T. Friend Jr.
The family wishes to thank Karen Mayle, Morgantown Hospice, Dr. Chadha and the staff of Encompass of Morgantown.
Friends will be received at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Morgantown, from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, and again from 10 a.m. on Friday until the 11 a.m. funeral service, with Pastor Stacy Chrise-Tritt officiating. Burial will be held at Beverly Hills Cemetery at a later date.
