On March 5, 2024, William “Bill” F. Armstrong, loving husband and father of two children, passed peacefully in his home at the age of 90.
Bill was born Feb. 19, 1934, in Brandonville, to Gerald and Ruby Armstrong. After graduating from Kingwood High School in 1952, he served in the Army where he taught helicopter maintenance. Following the service, he was an employee of Mon Power for 43 years, working at Albright Power Station.
As a skilled mechanic and fabricator, he engineered and built everything from an air compressor to a “bicycle built for two.” He became adept at woodworking and enjoyed crafting beautiful heirloom pieces of functional art for his family.
He was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood, where he served as an elder. His care and service to
the community were very important. Leading by example, he was a member of the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department since 1958. He was a founding member of KAMP ambulance and served as one of the first volunteer EMTs and ambulance drivers, as well as serving on Kingwood City Council for two terms.
One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family at the log cabin he built with the help of his closest friends. Bill enjoyed music, dancing with the Buckwheat Stompers square dance club, camping, hunting and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his son, William “Biff” Armstrong.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Janet Spiker Armstrong; daughter, Amy (Randy) Snyder of Kingwood; daughter-in-law, Susan Armstrong of Kingwood; grandchildren, Rachel Rerek of Kingwood, Zane Rerek of Chicago, Jennifer Armstrong of Elkins, Bill (Grace) Armstrong of Morgantown. He is also survived by his younger brother, Jay (Pam) Armstrong of Destrehan, La.; and his brother-in-law. John (Sabra) Spiker of
Morgantown.
Memorial services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6.
