Marlene Marie Lawson, 85, passed away March 14, 2024, in Ocala, Fla., from complications following a stroke. She was born Jan. 14, 1939, in Wheeling, the daughter of the late Elsie Dewey Molisee and Julie Irene Sams.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Jackie; half-brother, Don; and daughter, Barbara Joe.
She is survived by her husband, Robert K. Lawson; her children, Perry and Diane, Lisa and Mark, Chris and Leila, Diane and John; grandchildren, April and Dwayne, Willy and Alicia, Daniel, and Stephanie; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Nova, Kasey, and Haley; great-great-grandchildren, Theodore, Alice, and Kenai: and stepchildren, Loretta, Susie, and Cody.
Marlene spent most of her life as a care caregiver for the elderly and at one time owned her own personal care home. Her love and compassion for this kind of work showed, as those she cared for and their families showed their gratitude and thanks. She grew up in Arthurdale and attended a one room school and graduated from Valley or Masontown High with the class of 1956. Marlene and Robert had a small farm near Bruceton Mills, and she loved to can the vegetables they grew in their garden.
After retiring, they moved to Florida to enjoy the sunshine and warmth of the south and to enjoy visiting the historical sites of the region. Marlene also was a member of Morgantown Chapter 35 Order of the Eastern Star.
A grave side service will be held at Union Cemetery near Brandonville at a later date for both Marlene and Barbie Joe.
