Patricia Marie Bane Goodwin, of Jere, the daughter of the late Francis and Opal Bane, born Oct. 29, 1943, got her wings on June 22, 2022. Joseph Vaughn Goodwin, also of Jere and son of the late Harry and Anna Goodwin, was born Aug. 11,1939, and joined the love of his life on March 24, 2024.
These two lived beside each other growing up and started dating at the age of 13 and 15. They went on to marry at the ages of 21 and 24 years old in Oakland, Md. Joseph joined the United Stated Army and went off to boot camp at Fort Rucker in Alabama and soon after Patricia joined him in Fort Riley, Kan. While at Fort Riley, Joseph was in the Big Red One working with helicopters.
He was very proud to serve the United States Army, but his biggest honor was being the husband to Patricia. As he would tell you she ran the show. She was a homemaker, and after he got out of the Army, they resided back in Morgantown, and he worked at Hostess until the time of his retirement.
These two had many adventures together but adding to their family made them the happiest. They are survived by their daughter, Patti Jo and Fred Stouffer; and son, Brian Steven and Darlene Goodwin, both of Morgantown.
Their prides and joys were their grandsons, Travis (Brittney) Goodwin of Cumberland, Md., Tyler Stouffer of Morgantown, and Freddie Stouffer (Heidi) of Ft. Atkinson, Wis.; and great-grandchildren Bailey, Peyton, Taliyah, and Kameron Goodwin and Kylie Harter in Cumberland, Md., and Zoey, Paisley, Finn, and Mavis Stouffer from Ft. Atkinson, Wis.
They both were preceded by several brothers and sisters. Joseph is left with three sisters and a brother, and Patricia has a sister remaining. Also, they have many nieces and nephews whom they loved dearly.
On June 22, which would be their 61st wedding anniversary, a private service will be held for the family at the Olive Cemetery in Pentress.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in their memory to the Shack Neighborhood House or Scotts Run Settlement House.
Smith Funeral & Cremation Care and SFCC Crematory of Westover/Morgantown (304-292-9494) was honored to provide care and guidance to the family for both Joseph and Patricia.
