Mary Patricia “Pat” (Saylor) Moore, 90, of Cheat Lake, Morgantown, formerly of Fairmont and Somerset, Pa., passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at New Horizons Personal Care Home, in Kingwood, after a long illness.
Pat was born in Somerset, Pa., on May 11, 1933, to Roy N. Saylor and Mary Louise (Emert) Saylor.
In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Anne Breen; brother, John N. Saylor; and niece, Barbara Breen. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Murray D. Moore Jr.; and son-in-law, John E. Hale.
Left to miss her are her daughters, Linda K. Williams (Steve) of Bridgeport, and Mary Ellen Moore Hale (Allen Fortney) of Morgantown; grandchildren, Rachel and Kevin Chevalier of Kansas City, Kan., Rebecca and Brad Shaver of Nashville, Tenn., Michael Williams and Mary Minyen of San Diego, Calif., and Jonel Hale and Malcolm Caldwell of Morgantown. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, John, Sam, Annabelle, Andrew, Hannah, Penelope and Thomas. In addition, she is survived by her niece, Mary Sandra (Paul) Behrs of Sterling, Va., and their two children Jason Behrs and Jennifer Behrs Seaton.
Pat worked for WVU Hospitals for many years as a purchasing buyer. After her retirement she enjoyed volunteering at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was a loving mother and grandmother who spent many hours as their babysitter, confidante and shuttle driver. She attended many school events and supported their activities. She was very proud of all her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. She was just as proud of simple accomplishments as more difficult ones. She had a passion for math and studied mathematics at Fairmont State College, when it was Fairmont Normal School. She celebrated every college degree we earned as though it was her own. She loved you so hard that sometimes it felt like she was suffocating you. She was a member of the VFW Military Cooties Organization and held many different positions there. In every endeavor she undertook, she aspired to be the best.
Pat’s big heart prompted her to extend her nuclear family. She will be missed by her grandchildren of the heart, Carrie (Richie) Coleman and children, Landon Yasoweak, Patience, Richard “Blu” Coleman, and Richie’s daughter Jolie Rose Mercer-Coleman.
Friends may join the family to honor Pat’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown (304-292-9494) from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 25, and on Tuesday, March 26, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kevin Cain officiating. Following the funeral service and at her request, Pat will be cremated and she will be laid to rest with her husband at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
