Deane Shaffer

Lifted on the wings of angels. Deane “Dee” Lynne (Williams) Shaffer was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. She was born Feb. 21, 1949, at Grafton City Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Foster J. Williams and Hilda (Criss) Williams.

Dee lived in Tunnelton, Campground community, graduated from Tunnelton High School, and attended Camp Chapel Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Fairmont State College with a bachelor of arts in education. She taught physical education, health and English at Tunnelton High School and South Preston for 33 years. Dee had no children but said all of her students were her children.

Dee was a member of the Tunnelton Historical Society and a volunteer at Hope House in Tunnelton. She was very giving and when someone would need help, she was there with a helping hand. Dee supported Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child with many boxes every year.

Dee is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert Clay Shaffer. She had no siblings, but considered Iris and Rosemary Shaffer her sisters, as well as many of her close girlfriends. Dee is also survived by her brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” Shaffer; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law, Larry Shaffer.

Family and friends may be received at the Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price St., Kingwood, from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, and Monday, March 25, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral servce at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ed Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Camp Ground Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Pastor Eddie Martin and “all” who prayed, visited the hospital, called to express sorrow and to comfort in a time of need, especially, Angie and Rick Harrison. They were there every day, which Dee appreciated very much.
