Hazmat teams were called to a mobile home park off Canyon Road in Monongalia County Wednesday after a deceased person was found inside one of the residences.
Monongalia County Sheriff Perry Palmer said that an elderly individual who lived alone was found dead inside the home, along with several pets.
Responders to the scene believed the person had been dead for some time, possibly several weeks, which is why hazmat workers were called to ensure the safety of those investigating.
Palmer said they did not believe the death to be suspicious.
Dog wardens were also called to the scene and several dead animals were said to have been removed.
The Dominion Post contacted the Monongalia County Canine Adoption Center to confirm how many animals were found and if any live animals were removed but did not receive a response in time for this report.
