MORGANTOWN — The Trinity Christian baseball team earned a 13-12 record in 2023, its first winning season in several years.
The Warriors are set to achieve even more in 2024.
“Our goal for this year is to win at least 20 games,” head coach Wes Hopkins said. “I feel this program is earning the respect of the other sectional teams as well as our opponents in the OVAC conference over the last couple seasons. Trying to compete for a place in the OVAC semifinal and championship is definitely a goal we are preparing for.”
Trenton Timperio and Will McPherson are the team’s senior leaders. Juniors are Bryson Sanders, Brock Shuba and Noah Toler; sophomores are Joel Bowers, Ryan Parker, Thomas Dinkel and Parker Hopkins; and freshman who could make an impact are Sam Fulk and Baret Shuba.
The starting rotation will feature a player from each class as McPherson, Brock Shuba, Hopkins and Fulk will take the bump to start games.
Timperio, Toler, Sanders, Parker and Baret Shuba plan to be the relief pitchers.
At the plate, Dinkel, Parker and Hopkins all hit above .400 last season and Parker and Hopkins both earned All-State honors.
“What I am excited about is our ability to hit from top to bottom throughout our lineup,” Coach Hopkins said.
There may only be 11 players, but Coach Hopkins, in his third season, is encouraged by the growth of the entire squad.
“We may only have eleven players but this is cumulatively the most-talented group of young men that I have the honor of coaching,” he said. “They are very versatile and have great baseball IQ as well as [being] very athletic. Depth at most positions will definitely be a benefit to us going down the stretch.”
The Warriors are championship-minded with the vision of winning the sectional championship and competing for the first regional title in program history.
