Guitar virtuoso Spencer Elliott and multi-instrumentalist songwriter Chris Haddox headline a packed ticket of performers appearing in “Aloud for the Library,” an all-ages benefit concert supporting the upcoming Morgantown Public Library System Levy.
The event takes place Thursday at 123 Pleasant St. Tickets are $10, and doors open at 6 p.m.
“Library patrons will not want to miss the chance to support this essential institution, and have a great time doing so,” said event organizer Joe Morris of the Vote for the MPLS Levy Committee. “Rarely in Morgantown can you enjoy the caliber and breadth of performers we have lined up on a single bill.”
Featured performer Elliott is an acclaimed fingerstyle guitarist, known for deconstructing the instrument’s melodic range through kaleidoscopic compositions and tour-de-force technique. A signed artist with CandyRat Records, Elliott has released four albums and amassed a worldwide fanbase via YouTube, where his videos have been viewed more than 2 million times, and more than 4 million Spotify plays.
Haddox is a singer-songwriter and guitar-banjo-fiddle instrumentalist whose wry, keenly observed lyrics imbue the folk and bluegrass tradition with a contemporary vibrancy. His self-titled debut album rose to No. 11 on the Folk Alliance International chart, and he performed to a national radio audience in a 2022 “Mountain Stage” appearance.
Also performing are singer-songwriter Mary Angel Blount, the blues/folk/roots combo of Tim Mashburn & Dan Cunningham, multi-genre artist Brandhi Irvon and jazz/folk guitarist Duncan Lorimer.
All proceeds from “Aloud for the Library” will be used to promote passage of the library levy, which supplies progressive tax-based funding toward general operations for the Morgantown, Arnettsville, Cheat Area, Clay-Battelle and Clinton District public libraries as well as the Aull Center for Local History. It requires voter approval every four years and is up for renewal in the Primary Election on May 14.
Donations are administered by the Vote for the Morgantown Public Library System Levy Committee.
