MOOREFIELD — For the second year in a row, the Trinity Christian boys’ basketball team is heading to the state tournament. And for the second year in a row, the Warriors punched their ticket the hard way, winning a Class AA Region II co-final on the road at Moorefield Wednesday evening, 51-28.
TCS junior Chayce Adams, who passed the 1,000 career point mark during last Friday’s section champion, led the Warriors with 18 points against the Yellow Jackets.
Trinity led 27-16 at halftime and 35-24 heading into the fourth quarter. The Warriors only surrendered 12 second-half points and held the Yellow Jackets to just 10 total field goals.
Ronny Griest accounted for seven of those field goals as he led all scorers with 19 points.
Behind Adams, senior Ben Lohmann scored 10 points for the Warriors. Lucas Kniska scored eight points with a pair of three-pointers. Carter Hartsock had seven.
Trinity will be the No. 7 seed in next week’s state tournament. The Warriors will play No. 2 Charleston Catholic (21-4) in the quarterfinal round Thursday at 1 p.m.
