George Hatfield Burris, a cherished father, grandfather, and brother, left this world on March 1, 2024, at the age of 88, in Waynesburg, Pa., leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and craftsmanship. Born on March 26, 1935, in Mt. Morris, Pa., George was a man who dedicated his life to his family and his work with a passion that was apparent to all who knew him.
George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patty Jo Gribble Burris, with whom he shared countless treasured moments. He was a loving father to his son, Ronald Keith Burris, and daughter, Tamyra Jo (John) Sollon. His life was further enriched by the joy of his grandchildren, Tyler Warren (Samantha) Fairbanks, Megan Jo (Joel) Main, Madison Paige Sollon, and Garrett Sollon, and the delight of his great-grandchildren, Emmie Jo and Dean Main; and was very excited about baby girl Main, who is due in June.
George was predeceased by his siblings, Kathleen Arbogast, Almeda Burris, Ruby Helen Burris, Hazel Blaker, Inez Murphy, Edith Barbe, Charlie Burris, Bill Burris, and Jim Burris.
George’s working years were spent skillfully crafting glass before he delved into the coal mining industry, where he further demonstrated his admirable work ethic. His hands were as loving and wise as they were handy, creating and repairing with equal ease. George will be remembered for his unwavering kindness and the wisdom he imparted, a true testament to a life well-lived. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing and loved all animals, especially horses. His work ethic continued in his hobbies as he enjoyed doing anything he could use a shovel for. His memory will live on through the lives of those he touched.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Amedisys Hospice of Masontown, Pa., for all of the support and care given to George and his family in their time of need, especially to Marie and Bobbi.
A private service was held on Monday, March 4, and burial took place in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Mt. Morris, Pa.
