Robert Kefferstan

Dr. Robert Dick Kefferstan, II, 74, of Morgantown, died Feb. 26, 2024, at Harmony at Morgantown. Bob was born in Andover, Mass., in 1949 to the late Gertrude and Robert Dick Kefferstan.
He attended Phillips Academy in Andover before going on to study at Dartmouth, Harvard, Northwestern, and West Virginia University. He had many jobs throughout his life, including Associate Director of WVNET, Interim CIO at WVU, beloved calculus teacher at Morgantown High School, and ultimately retired as Professor and Dean of Education at Waynesburg College. Though he had many roles in life, one of his favorites was that as a grandparent. He treasured his time with his grandkids and loved being their Grandpa Bob. Bob found meaning in his later years by volunteering at Ruby Memorial Hospital in both the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Dual Diagnosis Unit. He was beloved by the nurses in the NICU for his proficiency in comforting the sick and pre-term babies, earning him the nickname of the “baby whisperer.” He was volunteer of the year in 2017 and was selected in 2020 by the Friends of WVU Hospitals to be a lifetime member to honor his contribution of over 1800 hours to the hospital system.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Christine, in 2014. Bob is survived by his children, Sean (wife Courtney Kefferstan), and Mary (husband Drew Gatlin); grandchildren, Emma and Camden; brothers, Kurt and Jody Kefferstan; and many dear in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature, his sense of humor, his love of music, and his great love for his family. The family would like to thank the staff at Harmony at Morgantown for the excellent care and community they provided for Bob.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 3346 University Ave., Morgantown, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, with Father John McDonough as celebrant. A committal service will take place at St. Mary Peace Garden Mausoleum following the mass.
