Main Street Morgantown launched Morgantown ReStored, a revitalization program to fill vacant storefronts with temporary art installations.
A new storefront art show opened Friday, during First Friday for the Arts. The eye-catching group show at 141-147 High St. — Warner Theatre — features artwork by eight undergraduate students enrolled in the Fairmont State University Studio Art program.
“This collection serves as a visual dialogue, engaging the viewer in a thoughtful exploration of the artistic process,” said exhibition organizer Joel Dugan, chair of FSU Department of Architecture Art & Design.
Morgantown ReStored showcases the potential of underused spaces, enlivens overlooked properties and generates curiosity and interest in local business and art. By partnering with property owners and local arts groups, Morgantown ReStored coordinates installations of creative arts, imagery and lighting enhancements. The initiative is part of a larger strategy to spark curiosity and attract long-term tenancy while beautifying and contributing to a safe and positive downtown atmosphere.
First Friday for the Arts is a new monthly event by Arts Council of Greater Morgantown, a Main Street Morgantown Affiliate event. The event features multiple downtown art locations and is intended to promote downtown foot traffic in celebration of the arts.
