Blanche Corrine Lyons Groves, 94, of Morgantown, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, at Morgantown Healthcare Center.
Blanche was born on Sept. 3, 1929, in Morgantown, a daughter of the late Ellsworth “Pinky” and Anna Manning Lyons.
Blanche is survived by six children, her sons, Ronald, John, Kenny Jr. and Don and his wife Carol, and two daughters, Margaret Kiger and her husband Gerald and Jane Stewart and her husband Carroll; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Kenneth E. Groves on March 31, 2021; and her five siblings, Esther, Glada, John, Elton, and Glenna. Blanche was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Blanche was a long time volunteer with the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 548, and she was proud of the time she spent there. She was a past president of the auxiliary and loved the time she put in there assisting with various aspects of the organization. Blanche was a member of Fresh Harvest Church in Morgantown. During election seasons, she also assisted with the voting booths locally. In her younger years, she played girls basketball in high school.
A private visitation and funeral service for immediate family and invited guests will be held at Fresh Harvest Church in Morgantown at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 4, officiated by Pastor David Hood. Following the funeral service, Blanche will be laid to rest with her husband at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Valley Point.
Flowers are welcomed at the church. However, if desired, contributions in Blanche’s memory may be made to either Fresh Harvest Church or to the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 548.
