Florence C. (Bolyard) Baker, 100, of Sarasota, Fla., and formerly of the Stewartstown area, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, at The Pines of Sarasota. Born in Burke, on March 29, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Harrison and Ethel (Butcher) Bolyard.
Florence had taught sewing for the Singer Sewing Company and was very proud of her ladies’ head vase collection. She also bowled into her 80s with a close friends group in Sarasota.
Surviving is her beloved son, Larry William Baker of Cuylerville, New York, and Sarasota; five grandchildren and their families; a sister, Kay Ruth Williams of Toledo, Ohio; and a number of loving nieces and nephews.
Florence is predeceased by her husband, Woodrow William Baker, who passed away on January 11, 1998. They had 56 years of happy marriage spent traveling and fishing. Also deceased is one son, James Allen Baker; three brothers, Melvin “Red” Bolyard, Harlin “Barney” Bolyard, Doyle “Rusty” Bolyard; and three sisters, Ruby Fominko, Wilma Gay Cook, and Mary Ellen Bolyard in infancy.
In her final weeks, she was blessed with supportive care by her son, Larry, his companion, Rose Wheeler, her niece Sandy Freeman, her granddaughters Karen Baker and Roxanne Baker, and the loving caregivers from both The Pines of Sarasota and Tidewell Hospice.
Friends will be received at Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, from noon on Monday, March 4, until the 2 p.m. hour of service, with Pastor Kathy Griffith officiating. Interment in Eden Cemetery, Stewartstown, W.Va.
