Thomas “Tom” Gregory Jones, of Independence, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, with his kids beside him. He fought a long battle with his leg.
Tom was born in Ironton, Ohio, to Mary and George Jones who preceded him in death.
He was the oldest brother of three sons. He was in the United States Marine Corps.
Tom did construction, carpentry, electrical work, and was a UMWA coal miner. He was a wonderful cook and baker, an avid hunter who loved God, his family, and his friends. He was a member of the local Moose and the Nazarene church. He was generous and enjoyed helping others.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer; his son, Greg and wife, Lauren; and grandson, Carter; and granddaughter, Breauna.
We are thankful for the superb care given by Mon General as well as the Morgantown Hospice team.
At his request, Tom has been cremated.
Friends may join the family to honor Tom’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown from 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, until the time of the memorial service at 7 p.m. Full Military Honors will be accorded following the memorial service at the funeral home.
