Michael Thomas “Mikey” Huggins, 43, of Morgantown, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, after a brief illness.
Mikey was born on June 9, 1980, in Morgantown, a son of Denise Lorraine McGrath Huggins, and the late William Huggins. who preceded him in death Feb. 20, 2019.
In addition to his mother, Mikey is survived by his brother, William “Bill” Huggins and his companion Lisa Hart of Morgantown; his niece, Kayla Huggins of Morgantown; two great-nieces, MaKenna Wheatley and Mya Weber; a great-nephew, Mason Price; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Along with his father, Mikey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bonnie and Donald Huggins, and Thomas and Carol McGrath; and an uncle, David Huggins.
Mikey was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed being outdoors.
For 25 years, he was an active member of the Clinton District Fire Department, holding nearly every position there, and serving as Chief of the department until October of 2023 when his health no longer permitted him to do so.
At Mikey’s request, he has been cremated.
Friends may join the family to honor Mikey’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown from 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, until the time of the memorial service at 7 p.m. officiated by Pastor Dolly Sparks. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
Due to an anticipated large gathering of family and friends, carpooling is suggested when visiting the funeral home.
