Richard Keith Garrison, 77, of Dilliner, Pa., passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, after a brief, yet difficult battle with ALS.
Richard was born on Dec. 29, 1946, in Littleton, to the late Perman and Virginia Garrison of New Freeport, Pa. He is survived by his wife of nearly 36 years, Candace; his daughter, Sheila Garrison Feistel of Brunswick, Ga.; and his two stepchildren, Amy Taylor, and grandchildren Kayleigh and Sawyer of Fayetteville, and William (Heather) Conway and three grandchildren of Dilliner. He is also survived by his siblings and their families, Elaine Arnold and Vickie Garrison of Fairmont, Gary Garrison of Newell, Marjorie (Robert) Brumgard of Humble, Texas, Linda (Bill) McEvoy of Dover, Pa., Terry (Dinah) Garrison of New Freeport, Pa., and Debbie (Dale) Gunnoe of Fairdale; and so many nieces and nephews.
Richard was a 1965 graduate of West Greene High School. As a Vietnam-era Veteran of the United States Army, he was proud to have served our country. Serving from 1966-69 and then an additional seven years in the Army National Guard (Canonsburg), he served as a firefighter while stationed at Fort Greely in Fairbanks, Alaska. After his service, Richard was employed and retired after 22 years from Morgantown Utility Board. He enjoyed traveling with his family, metal detecting, caring for his dogs, and watching the news and weather.
Even with his terminal diagnosis of ALS, he took his diagnosis in stride. He would often pull down his mask, in between breaths, to let us know that he was ok. His strength, even in his last moments, provides comfort in his absence.
Family and friends are invited to say their final goodbyes at Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, Pa., on Monday, Feb. 12. Viewing is noon-2 p.m., with military honors to follow by the Greene County Honor Guard. A memorial dinner will be held immediately afterwards at the American Legion, Post 499, Point Marion.
