No. 22 WVU looks to add to a six-game win streak in hosting Texas Tech

MORGANTOWN — The No. 22 WVU women’s basketball team will be looking for its seventh consecutive victory when the Mountaineers host Texas Tech at 7 p.m. Tuesday inside the Coliseum.

With a win, WVU (19-2, 8-2 Big 12) would move into a tie for second place in the Big 12 along with Kansas State.

The game will be a celebration for National Girls and Women in Sports as well as Black History Month.

WVU and Texas Tech (16-7, 5-5) will be meeting for the 24th time. Texas Tech ended a 12-game losing streak to the Mountaineers with a 69-68 victory in Lubbock last season.

Texas Tech comes into the game off a 74-56 road loss against Cincinnati, and the Red Raiders are just 1-4 on the road this season.

Jasmine Shavers (14.8 ppg) and Bailey Maupin (14.1 ppg) lead Texas Tech in scoring, while Shavers adds 5.4 rebounds per game. Maupin leads the team with 3.7 assists.

The Mountaineers won their sixth straight game with a 76-69 road win at BYU.

Lauren Fields scored 22 points in the victory, her seventh consecutive game in double figures and she was 4 of 6 from 3-point range.

Junior guard J.J. Quinerly tallied her 20th double-digit scoring game of the season with 19 points.

Quinerly (19.5), sophomore guard Jordan Harrison (13.9) and Fields (10.7) continue to pace WVU’s offensive effort this season.

Quinerly is the fourth-leading scorer in the Big 12, while her 409 total points rank second. She is one of 11 players in program history to record 1,000 career points and 200 steals.

The Mountaineers have the top four steal leaders in the Big 12 with Quinerly (3.3), Harrison (2.7), Fields (2.3) and junior guard Kyah Watson (2.2). Harrison has racked up 115 assists this season and is averaging 5.5 per contest which is the second-best in the conference.

Watson paces WVU in rebounding, with 5.9 boards per game.

West Virginia averages 14.4 steals per contest and adds a 9.43 turnover margin which are the best marks in the nation.

WVU is also forcing 24.7 turnovers per game, the second most in the country.
