MORGANTOWN — Here is a sampling of bills introduced Monday, Feb. 5. Local sponsors and co-sponsors are noted.
- SB 629, to require a builder to follow the provisions of the State Building code in the construction or renovation of a structure, even if a county or municipality does not provide inspection and enforcement services.
- SB 630, election officials and election workers, whether salaried, non-salaried, or contracted, including poll workers, shall be protected from threats, intimidation, harassment and/or coercion that would interfere with the ability to perform their duties during the process of an election or in performing the normal duties at a polling place.
- SB 636, to expressly prohibit the acceptance of illegal ballots cast in any election and to provide criminal penalties for intentionally and knowingly accepting an absentee ballot that does not comply with state requirements for absentee voting. Sen. Mike Oliverio, R-Monongalia, lead sponsor.
- SB 638, to create a community solar program where subscribers can purchase an interest in a solar facility and use credits against their electric utility costs. Oliverio, lead sponsor.
- HB 5439, to provide that using deadly force against an intruder or attacker in a workplace by person not engaged in unlawful activity is not illegal if the person reasonably believes that he or she or another is in imminent danger of death or serious bodily harm; and providing that the action may not result in that person being terminated from employment, regardless of company or employer policy.
