With all this snowy weather, are your kids home with you looking for something fun to do? Well, I have just the idea for you. In less than five minutes, you and your little ones can whip up a delicious batch of snow ice cream!
I remember when I was young, there were a few times that we had snow days and got to make snow ice cream. This was so mind-blowing to me as a kid, because I had no idea that you could use snow to make ice cream or that it could be so easy.
So, when it started snowing last week, I knew that I wanted to do this activity with my kiddos.
The most important thing when making snow ice cream is to make sure you are using the top layer of snow so you aren’t getting the dirt from the ground. It’s also important to make sure not to use
yellow snow, for obvious reasons.
For this snow day treat, all you need are five ingredients, a bowl and a spoon. You’ll need milk, sugar, vanilla extract, sea salt and fresh snow. The sea salt is optional, but it does make the vanilla flavor pop a little more. If vanilla isn’t your favorite flavor, you can use cocoa powder to make it chocolate. The best part to this is adding all the fun, yummy toppings your heart desires.
So, we know the ingredients, but how do we make it? It’s super easy! For 2-4 servings, you take 1 cup of milk, 1/3 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, a pinch of sea salt, and whisk it all together.
Once it is combined, you add 8 cups of fresh snow and stir it into the milk mixture until you have the consistency you want. It’s that simple! Then you can top it with sprinkles or cookie crumbles or my
personal favorite, chocolate syrup.
So next time you have snow and are looking for a sweet way to celebrate with your kids, remember to make snow ice cream!
