MORGANTOWN — Here is a sampling of bills introduced Monday, Jan. 15. Local sponsors and co-sponsors are noted.
- SB 448, to require all public schools located within this state to give age-appropriate instruction on the Holocaust. Sen. Mike Oliverio, R-Monongalia, sponsor.
- SB 449, to limit use of fireworks in municipalities and within 300 feet of a residence — the same limitations as firearms.
- SCR 17, reaffirming the Legislature’s support for the state of Israel and the Jewish people; condemning anti-Semitic acts and expressions; recognizing Israel’s right to exist as a sovereign nation; denouncing terrorist organizations and state sponsors of terrorism. Sponsored by all 31 Republicans.
- SR 6, “Honoring the life of Edith Levy, a Holocaust survivor, and a remarkable woman, who dedicated her life to educating others about the horrors of genocide and the importance of tolerance and compassion.” Oliverio, Sen. Mike Caputo, D-Marion, co-sponsors.
- HB 4699, to prevent those persons who have attempted to prevent any free election from running for and holding any elective office.
- HB 4730, to require the commissioner of highways to develop a formula for allocating road funds among districts, for the benefit of the counties. Delegate Joe Statler, R-Monongalia, sponsor.
- HB 4733, the West Virginia Farm Fresh Dairy Act, to allow for the sale and consumption of homemade and farm-fresh raw milk and raw milk products and to encourage the expansion of raw milk dairy sales by small farm producers and accessibility of their products to informed end consumers.
- HB 4741, to provide that a person who fails a random testing for alcohol or illegal controlled substances in safety-sensitive positions is disqualified for unemployment compensation benefits. Delegate George Street, R-Preston, sponsor.
- HB 4760 (same as SB 440), governor’s bill, to set the salaries for the new secretaries of Health, Human Services and Health Facilities at $175,000 each.
