Clay Alden Leone, 27, of Morgantown, found peace on Jan. 12, 2024, after years of fighting hard against addiction.
Clay was an intensely passionate individual, heavily invested in helping those around him whenever he could, never shying away from and always advocating for those in need. Witty, funny, and friendly as could be, he made lasting impressions on anyone who met him and strove to consistently be a friend to all. Furthermore, Clay loved music, especially outsider music, which he was always eager to share with others. He was wonderfully talented with multiple instruments, though his favorite was the guitar. He wrote songs, stories, and poetry, and was an avid reader and gamer.
More than even music, though, Clay loved his family and his faith. A devout Christian, Clay aimed to follow the example of Christ every day, read and annotated his bible multiple times, and fully believed in sharing a message of love. He shared this love most strongly with his mother, brothers, and sister-in-law, all of whom he endeavored to make proud. He succeeded in this, and though he may be gone, his bravery and persistence in the face of so many challenges were exceptional.
Clay was preceded in death by his father, Allen Leone; grandmother, Vivian Leone; grandfather, Don Van Metre; and uncle, Derek Van Metre.
He is survived by his mother, Amy Leone-Salisbury; stepfather, Jeff Salisbury; brothers, Chase and Connor; sister-in-law, Katherine; grandparents, Gary Leone and Bonnie Van Metre; and multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins. They all miss him immensely but find comfort in knowing that he is in the presence of those who went before.
Friends may join the family for a time to share memories and honor Clay’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
Smith Funeral & Cremation Care & SFCC Crematory, (304) 292-9494, is providing care and guidance to the family.
