Cheryl Darlene Stevens, 63, peacefully passed away in her birthplace of Morgantown, on Jan. 6, 2024, at the age of 63. Born to the late Lawrence McDonald and Flo Leighty; entering the world on Jan. 3, 1961, Cheryl’s life was one marked by loving dedication and gentle compassion.
Cheryl’s heart found its match in David Stevens, her devoted husband of
34 years, standing by her side in a united journey filled with love and shared experiences. Her legacy is cherished in the lives of her grandchildren, Joshua Stevens, Nicholas Searfoss, Avery DeWitt, Ashlynne DeWitt, and Addley DeWitt — who will forever hold dear the wisdom and joy she imparted. Cheryl’s sisters, Linda Brown and Michelle Henderson, and her brothers, Larry McDonald, Gregg McDonald, Michael Rife, Jeff Rife, and Joseph Leemaster, remember her as a guiding light and a cornerstone of the family. Additionally, Cheryl was blessed with a wonderful stepfather, Bill Leighty.
In addition to her father, She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Daniel McDonald.
Professionally, Cheryl dedicated many years as a medical assistant with local hospice organizations, touching countless lives. She was also proud to be the wife of an Army Vietnam veteran, supporting him and their shared values wholeheartedly.
Cheryl’s zest for life was evident to all who knew her, cherishing time spent camping at camp on Hildebrand Lock and Dam Road, navigating the waters on her boat, jet-skiing, and reconnecting with nature through fishing, shooting, and riding ATVs. Brimming with friendliness and kindness, she will be fondly remembered as an individual who was unfailingly thoughtful, leaving an enduring impact on everyone she met.
Family and friends are invited to gather at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Rd., from 5-7 pm. on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service. Following the service, Cheryl will be laid to rest at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
