Barbara Leslie McGinnis, 61, of Morgantown (formerly of Newburg), passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.
She was born June 12, 1962, in Kingwood, a daughter of the late Rev. Howard O. McGinnis and Norma L. (Sapp) McGinnis of Newburg.
Barbara graduated from West Preston High School, Class of 1980. She was a financial aid counselor for West Virginia University for 37 years. She worked hard helping students get whatever assistance they needed for college. She dispersed millions of dollars of assistance for thousands of students.
Barbara was a kind, friendly and amazing woman. She loved children and especially enjoyed spoiling her many nieces and nephews. Over the years, she opened her heart and home to many who needed somewhere to stay. There were people everywhere who loved and appreciated Barbara.
She is survived by two sisters; Janet Adams and Steve; Cheryl Wilt and Terry, all of Newburg; a brother, J. Mark McGinnis and Carla of Grafton; eight nieces and nephews, Samantha Wilt of Fairmont, Rachel Wilt of Morgantown, Sarah Waskey and Troy of Franklin, N.C.; Jessica Adams of Morgantown, Stephen Adams and Kendall of Reedsville, Gina Petree and Steve of Fairmont, Joshua Adams and Janna of Arthurdale; Baleigh Brady and Sean of Morgantown; six great-nephews and a great-niece, Jackson Ayers, Judah and Josiah Adams, Will Adams, Ariella Petree, Carter Waskey and Greyson Brady.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by grandparents: Chester and Della (Martin) McGinnis and Carter and Frances (Morris) Sapp.
Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave., Newburg, on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, from
4-8 p.m. and on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, from 11 a.m. until time of the funeral services at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Messenger officiating. Interment will be at Damon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: West Virginians for Life, 25 Canyon Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.
