Steven R. Areford, 59, of Westover, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at his home. Born in Morgantown on April 10, 1960, he was a son of Allan and Marilee (VanDruff) Areford, of Morgantown.
A 1978 graduate of University High School, Steven was a talented artist, and skilled at building or repairing just about anything. He formerly was the lead carpenter for Smola Construction, and more recently had worked for Northco Corp. as a machinist. Many times he was the one called on to fix or repair the mistakes of others. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outside, hunting and fishing.
In addition to his loving parents, surviving are two daughters, Tiffany and husband Jason Leonard of Bloomington, Ind., and Heather Areford, of Morgantown, and their mother, Cindy (Fisher) Areford, also of Morgantown; a grandson, Gage Leonard; one brother, Wesley and wife Tammy Areford of Morgantown; and a sister, Wendy and husband Daniel Hewett of Parrish, Fla.; a niece, Holly and husband Tyler Grubb; and a nephew, Aaron Hewett.
His family will receive friends in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, 501 Morgantown St., Point Marion, from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, with a Memorial Service for both Steven and his mother to begin at 6 p.m., with Rev. Andrew Lawrence officiating.
