Marilee Areford, 83, of Morgantown, died unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023, in the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. Born at Bald Hill, Dilliner, Pa., on May 24, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Wesley and Kay (Donley) VanDruff.
A 1958 graduate of Mapletown High School, Marilee had worked for a while as a gastrointestinal technician at West Virginia University Hospital, and also for doctors’ private practices. Her passion, though, was looking after the needs of her family, especially taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband of 65 years, Allan Areford; two children and their spouses, Wesley and Tammy Areford of Morgantown, and Wendy and Dan Hewett of Parrish, Fla.; four grandchildren, Tiffany Leonard, Heather Areford, Holly Grubb and Aaron Hewett; four great-grandchildren, Brynlee, Rylie, and Kaysen Grubb and Gage Leonard; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Areford; one sister, Diana Bennett of Dilliner, Pa.; a brother, Stanley VanDruff and his wife Carol of Dahlgren, Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Marilee, and whom she adored as well.
Deceased is her son, Steven Areford, on Feb. 6, 2020.
Her family will receive friends in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, 501 Morgantown St., Point Marion, from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, with a Memorial Service to begin at 6 p.m., with Rev. Andrew Lawrence officiating.
