Eleanor H. “Ellie” Moore, 77, of Smithfield, passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, at her home, following a lengthy illness.
Born on Oct. 20, 1946, she was a daughter of the late John and Alice (Jacobs) Hershberger.
A 1964 graduate of Albert Gallatin High School, she worked for 30 years with the Bell Telephone System as an operator and dispatch clerk. Eleanor was a faithful member of the New Geneva Baptist Church, where she was secretary of the Ladies Fellowship and sang with the “Glory-Bound Express” vocal group. She also volunteered with the Telephone Pioneers of America and its many community service activities.
She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter and son-in-law Marcie and Alan Moody, with whom she made her home; two grandsons, Hunter and Braeden Moody; sister, Nancy Loring and husband Ralph of New Geneva; two nieces, Dawn Staub (Rick) and Tanya Kisner (Kim); and many great-nieces and nephews.
Her husband, James Moore, passed away on Sept. 10, 1975. Also deceased are half-brothers, John, Elwood, Raymond and Ira Hershberger; and half-sisters, Elizabeth Daugherty McClain, Virginia Wheaton, Violet Weed and Georgia Menz.
The family would like to thank the Amedisys Hospice nurses for the support and care given throughout this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Geneva Baptist Church, 10 Front St, New Geneva, Pa.
Friends will be received in the New Geneva Baptist Church on Thursday, Dec. 28, from 2–8 p.m., where services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charles Bowser officiating. Interment follows in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New Geneva. Arrangements are in the care of the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion.
