Sandra Carey

It is with deep admiration and hearts full of cherished memories that we honor the life of Sandra Rose Tomasovich Carey, affectionately known to family and friends as “Sandy.” Born on July 16, 1948, in Weirton, Sandy was a radiant presence who infused warmth and kindness into the lives of all who knew her. She passed away in the peaceful surrounds of her home in Morgantown, on Dec. 12, 2023.

Sandy lived a life marked by devotion to her family and a steadfast commitment to her profession.

She was preceded in death by beloved members of her family, including her parents, Mike and Wanda Tomasovich; her husband, Dr. Kim Carey; her son, Dr. Bryan Carey; and her brother, Ted Tomasovich.

Her legacy of love and care lives on through her son, Eli John Carey of Morgantown; her sisters, Marcia (Bob) Newbrough, and Mishal (Mike) Hawthorne, both of Weirton; her brother, Michael (Nancy) Tomasovich of Atlanta, Ga.; sister-in-law, Beth Tomasovich of Washougal, Wash.; and brother-in-law, Dr. Dick Carey (Debbie) of Fort Myers, Fla. Her joy also shone through her granddaughter, Cassandra (David) Neely; and her adored great-grandchildren, Jack and Teddy Neely. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and special friends, Michael Brown, Dee, Sandy, Maria, Chris, Allen, and Jason, who will cherish the memories.

After graduating from Weir High School and earning an associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene from West Liberty College and Board of Regents Degree from WVU, Sandy embarked on a rewarding 43-year career in dental hygiene. A pillar of her community, she was well-known for her professional excellence, friendliness, and genuine concern for her patients.

Sandy’s vivacious spirit was evident in her role as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend. Those who knew Sandy will fondly remember her zest for life, her infectious laughter, and the grace with which she lived her life. Although she has departed this world, Sandy’s remarkable spirit will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved her.
