Richard Lee Snyder, fondly known to many as Flintlock, departed this world on Dec. 16, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship, adventure and boundless love.
Born on March 25, 1953, in Kingwood, Rick’s life was a testament to the artistry he poured into every creation and the joy he found in sharing his passions with those around him.
A craftsman of unparalleled skill, Rick derived immense joy from the art of building custom muzzleloaders and crafting exquisite antler furniture through his business, Mountain Treasures. His meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to quality made his creations not just pieces of art but cherished treasures passed down through generations.
Beyond the workshop, Rick’s spirit thrived in the great outdoors. Rick was not merely a craftsman but a master of the hunt, finding solace and camaraderie in the time-honored tradition of using a flintlock rifle. His trips to Colorado to hunt elk were not just expeditions; they were cherished adventures that filled his heart with the beauty of nature.
Rick’s impact extended beyond his craft; he was a storyteller, weaving tales of his hunting expeditions, sharing the intricacies of his craft and regaling listeners with memories of days gone by. His infectious enthusiasm and warm camaraderie endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Ann Weaver, his sons Steven Snyder (Susie) and Brad Snyder (Caroline Taylor), and stepsons Wayne Weaver and Tim Weaver. His memory lives on through his cherished grandchildren: Josh and Brinley Snyder, Boston Weaver, Samantha Boyce, Mariah Kelly, Emily Ervin and Sadie Ervin. Additionally, Wylee Boyce holds a special place as Rick’s great-grandson. They all lovingly knew him as Pappy.
In addition to his grandchildren, Rick is survived by his brothers and sisters, Larry Snyder (Emily), Karen Kurilko (William), Randy Snyder (Amy), and Pam Hofer (Mark), and many nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Patricia (Graham) Snyder, and his brother, Kevin Snyder. As he embarks on his final journey, Rick leaves behind a community that mourns the loss of a genuine, compassionate soul.
Rick’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the Preston County Animal Shelter for their dedication to the welfare of animals, a cause that was close to Rick’s heart.
As we bid farewell to Rick, let us celebrate the life of a man who found joy in creating, adventure in the wilderness and fulfillment in the bonds of family and friendship. A memorial service to honor Rick’s life and craftsmanship will be held at a date to be determined in the future. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Preston County Animal Shelter in Rick’s name.
May the echo of his laughter, the warmth of his spirit and the beauty of his creations continue to resonate in our hearts. Rest in peace, Rick, your legacy lives on.
