FAIRMONT — The state Department of Highways has announced plans to demolish the northbound South Fairmont Arch Bridge on Interstate 79 Friday morning as of the interstate widening project in the area.
Northbound and southbound restrictions are planned between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. between the South Fairmont and Kingmont Road exits as crews prepare to blast the northbound portion of the river that spans the Tygart River.
Workers from Swank Construction have scheduled a rolling roadblock for approximately 10 a.m. to bring the span down.
The southbound span was demolished back in March.
The northbound span was constructed in 1966.
For safety reasons, only authorized personnel are allowed within the explosives loading/handling area.
Public viewing is not allowed.
Vinegar Hill Road, Marion County Route 60, will be closed for the remainder of the week to
prepare from demolition.
