Roger J. Houze, III, 77, of Sterling, Va., passed away Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Born in Uniontown, Pa., on June 2, 1946, he was the son of the late Eleanor (Sikkenga) and Roger J. Houze, II.
Roger attended Albert Gallatin High School through his sophomore year, and then graduated from Morgantown High School. At both schools he excelled on their football teams. He also played football at Texas Christian University, and later on coached football in Loudoun County, Va. Roger’s career was in financial management, but his passion was family and football.
Roger obtained an undergraduate degree at Texas Christian University, a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Maryland, and an MBA from Central Michigan University.
Roger is survived by his wife, Debra (Medvitz) Houze; two sons, Roger Houze, IV (Heather) of Ranson, and Chris Houze (Makenzi) of Gerrardstown; two granddaughters, Carys and Annalise Houze; two sisters, Kay Lynne Stone (Jerry) of Morgantown, and Shelly Buckley (David) of Bowie, Md.; and a brother, Greg Houze (Dawn) of Highland, Md.
The family will receive friends at the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, Pa., from 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, until noon at which time there will be a service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Point Marion.
There will be a reception after the committal for family and friends at the Buffalo Wild Wings Restaurant on University Town Center Drive in Morgantown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to the Lower Loudoun Youth Football League, P.O. Box 163 Sterling, VA 20164, where Roger coached for over 20 years.
