Therapy Services LLC continues to innovate in the therapy space with its latest addition.
The Hampton Center business hosted an open house on Sunday to introduce its new sensory gym.
According to Tyler Elliott, office operations and risk coordinator at Therapy Services LLC, the space will serve a number of needs.
“The addition of the new sensory gym can accommodate the needs of many children and teens, not only with autism, but with sensory processing differences, as well,” Elliott said.
The gym features a climbing structure with ninja ramp, climbing rope, slide, stairs, elevated loft, jump deck and crash pad, as well as a rock-climbing wall.
“Some individuals need increased sensory input to help regulate their nervous system, while others need less,” Elliott explained. “A great feature of this room is to provide both for those who need it.
“There are no windows in the room, making it a quiet, dark space to help calm. A 6-foot bubble tube stands in the corner, with color changing LED lighting effects. The light, mixed with the soft bubble sounds and floating fish can create a calming atmosphere.”
The dark room also has touch-activated, color-changing hexagons on the wall.
And, “the lower deck of the climbing feature acts as a quiet space with motion activated lights if needed, a bean bag chair and small ball pit can be found underneath to offer proprioceptive calming input.”
The room features four different swings, which serve various needs: A lycra material “cuddle” swing offering deep pressure, a ladder swing, bolster swing and rope/disc swing.
Elliott said the room will benefit all sorts of clients.
“The room is used by all three disciplines — occupational, physical and speech therapists. The back of the climbing structure wall is made up of dry erase board material, making it a great treatment space, as well.”
As of right now, the sensory gym is only available for patients of Therapy Services.
Elliott said the business has also added a reading program to its list of services, and is now an official provider for Hope Scholarship recipients.
