Ahead of Veterans Day, members of the Cass West Virginia University Extension Community Educational Outreach Service club in Monongalia County packed bags of food to donate to local veterans.
The group met Wednesday at Cassville United Methodist Church.
The effort was part of a county-wide CEOS project to support the Brown Bags for Vets program, which provides food to local veterans traveling between the Clarksburg VA center and the Pittsburgh VA hospital for medical testing or treatments. “Many times, they don’t have time to get anything to eat after their appointments when the van is ready to leave, so this would be a snack lunch for them on their way back,” said Debbie Blehschmidt, Cass CEOS president.
Cass CEOS club members filled their brown bags with nutritious foods and drinks, along with thank you notes to recognize the veterans’ service.
Other CEOS clubs across Monongalia County also have participated in the initiative, packing bags of food at their own club meetings.
More than 200 packs were filled. All packs will go to Morgantown Veterans Office in Westover, then on to Clarksburg.
