Our dear mother, Rhona Stannard, sadly passed away on Nov. 3, 2023, at the age of 94. She was born March 14, 1929, in Morgantown, daughter of Rhona King Mosby and William James Mosby.
She retired from the West Virginia University Vice President for Health Sciences Office in 1994 after 35 years of service. She graduated from Monongalia High School in Morgantown, where she was head majorette, and briefly attended West Virginia University.
Home and family are what she valued most. She enjoyed her hot tea every morning, was an avid crossword puzzler, pinochle player and member of the Red Hat Society. She loved to read, especially James Patterson novels. She was fanatical about WVU football and basketball, as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers. She danced with the String of Pearls Dance Team for several years and won many awards. She attended Jones United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Stannard; her loving daughter, Pamela Mosby; and all seven of her siblings, including Oliver Mosby, Quentin Mosby, Edith Williams, Christine Browne, Mary Wise, Frederick Mosby and James Mosby.
She leaves to lovingly cherish her memory her daughters, Kim Mosby of Morgantown, and April Cukic and husband Bojan of Charlotte, N.C. She is also survived by special nieces, Lynn and Thea Browne, Helen Rogers; and nephew, James Browne; as well as many other nieces, nephews, and a host of very dear friends.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, until the time of the memorial service at 4 p.m. with Pastor Junius Lewis officiating.
